The Old Testament priesthood served a real purpose, but it was never the final answer. It had serious limitations: the priests were sinners, they died and needed replacing, and their sacrifices never permanently removed sin. Jesus, as our High Priest, surpasses all of that in four powerful ways. He brings a better hope that gives us direct access to God anytime, through prayer and worship. His priesthood is backed by God's own unbreakable oath, making Him the guarantee of a better covenant. He saves completely and forever, living right now to intercede for those who trust in Him. His once-for-all sacrifice on the cross paid the debt of sin in full, permanently, never to be repeated.
