Jesus is Better

Hebrews 8:1-13 | August 2, 2026
Jesus is our High Priest, and everything about His ministry is greater than what came before it. Hebrews 8 makes this case with clarity and conviction, pointing to three reasons His priesthood stands apart. First, His work is finished. Old Testament priests never sat down because the sacrifices never ended, but Jesus sat down at the right hand of God because the work of salvation was fully and finally complete. Second, He ministers not in an earthly tent built by human hands, but in the true heavenly sanctuary, in the very presence of God. Third, His sacrifice was unlike anything ever offered. He did not bring grain or animal blood. He offered Himself, the perfect and sinless Son of God, making one sacrifice that cleanses sin once and for all.
The New Covenant that Jesus mediates is built on better promises than anything the Old Covenant could provide. The Old Covenant gave people the law written on stone, but it could not change the heart. The New Covenant does what the old one never could. It transforms people from the inside out. The Holy Spirit comes to live within believers, giving them new desires and empowering them to follow God in ways they never could on their own. Under the New Covenant, everyone who enters does so through genuine saving faith, meaning everyone in it truly knows the Lord personally. Sin is not merely covered but fully forgiven and remembered no more. The promises secured through Jesus include forgiveness, a new heart, direct access to God, a transformed life, and eternal life. No system of religion, self-improvement, or worldly pursuit can offer what He offers. He is King, He is God, and He is the only one who can deliver on every promise He has made.
