God’s Purposes for Marriage (9/7/25)
Genesis 1:28, 2:18; 1 Corinthians 7:1-5; Ephesians 5:31-32
God designed marriage with five divine purposes that benefit individuals, families, and society. These purposes include procreation, as couples are commanded to be fruitful and multiply; companionship, addressing our need for deep relationship; partnership, where spouses complement each other as co-laborers in life; sexual intimacy, providing the exclusive context for physical expression; and gospel witness, as marriage portrays Christ’s relationship with the church. By understanding and embracing these purposes, couples can build marriages that honor God’s design, satisfy their deepest needs, and demonstrate the transformative power of the gospel to the world around them.
