Psalm 51

King David’s confession in Psalm 51 reveals what genuine repentance looks like after his adultery with Bathsheba and murder of her husband. True confession involves four key elements: focusing on God as our only hope for forgiveness, acknowledging sin without making excuses or blame-shifting, desiring inner transformation rather than just surface-level change, and renewing our commitment to follow God faithfully. David didn’t just want to be forgiven; he wanted to be fundamentally changed from the inside out. When we confess with a broken and contrite heart, God promises immediate forgiveness through Christ’s sacrifice on the cross.
