2021 Family Dedication
May 9, 2021 10:30am
Lakeland Baptist Church takes seriously the Word of God. We believe the family was the first institution created by God (Genesis 2:18, 21-24). We believe God instituted the family as the primary vessel to pass faith on to the next generation so that the Gospel would spread to the ends of the earth. We believe God has given parents the responsibility to teach and train their children the Word of God and His love (Deuteronomy 6).
The Dedication Ceremony at Lakeland is not a sacrament or ordinance, nor is it a declaration of a child’s faith. The Dedication Ceremony is a decision made by the parent/parents of a child and not by the child themselves. We believe salvation is through grace by faith alone and this ceremony in no way guarantees salvation or serves as a substitute for the personal responsibility a child has before the Lord to accept Christ as Savior and Lord when they come to understand the Gospel.
The Dedication Ceremony is a commitment by the parent/parents to train and teach their child the love of God, the Word of God, the character of God, and a life of obedience to God. This special event is an opportunity for parents to make a public declaration that their child is a gift from God and they will raise their child unto the Lord with His guidance in a Christ-centered home.
With the parent’s commitment, Lakeland Baptist Church also commits to continue to believe in God’s purpose for the family institution, cover parents in prayer, hold parent’s accountable for their God given responsibilities, and provide resources and tools throughout the child’s spiritual journey.
